These imposing churches and picturesque chapels where built during different eras with various architectural structures and impress with local craftsmanship. While most of the Gozo churches serve the parish duties, some even welcome pilgrims from all over the world such as the Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary in Gharb, others are intact monasteries. The Rotunda of St. John the Baptist in Ix-Xewkija is the biggest church in Gozo with the third largest dome in the world – A must see. The gothic chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes in Ghajnsielem is blessed with its stunning view overl Mġarr Harbour and Comino. The Gozo Cathedral on the highest point of Victoria was built on a Roman temple site in the 17th century. It stands out with breathtaking paintings on the ceiling and marks the main feast throughout the cultural calendar on the 15th August, Santa Marija – the assumption of our lady.
